In this workshop you will learn to naturally dye silk using the ecoprint method.
We will be using both alum and iron as mordants to show the differences in colors based on mordants used- and leaves that were wildcrafted late last Autumn. No natural dye experience necessary.
You will go away with 2- 29"x29" scarves and the knowledge and instruction to recreate this magic at home.
FIBRE ARTS RETREAT WITH CAITLIN FFRENCH & KIM MCKENNA
MARCH 10, 2017 2:00 PM - MARCH 12, 2017
We are so pleased to announce our 2017 Spring Fibre Arts retreat in beautiful Langley, BC. Have you ever wanted to try eco-printing, ink making, shibori stitching, or indigo dying? This weekend will have it all! And the best part is, absolutely no experience required.
The retreat will take place Friday March 10th to Sunday March 12th at Springbrooke Retreat Centre. Located 45 minutes outside of Vancouver, Springbrooke is a quiet and inspiring place, surrounded by cedar trees and wildlife. In addition to it’s natural surroundings, the property also boasts a hot tub, pool, sauna and outdoor showers that overlook the Salmon River.
On Saturday, we will be learning eco-printing and ink making with Caitlin ffrench. In her workshop, you will learn to make botanical prints on fabric using leaves foraged in the Autumn as well as leaves from your local florist. She will be discussing mordants, health and safety, and the fastness of pigments. We will also be making a vial of botanical drawing ink while we wait for our eco-printed bundles to cook. You will go home with an ecoprinted silk scarf, a piece of printed cotton for use on Sunday, a vial of botanical drawing ink, and notes on the processes we used. After our dinner on Saturday we will be whisked away to the lovely LYS 88 Stitches for an evening of exclusive shopping!
